Ha ha, the hole in the ground toilets are slowly being replaced by western style toilets, specially in the main cities but in the regional area's your stuck with the holes. But whats wrong with having to do you business in a hole in the ground? I mean at least theres no splashes

The toilets are so disgusting unless it's at a decent hotel or restaurant, that's why I don't use public toilets in HK!

It's all about cultural differences. I heard that people who are used to use those "hole in the ground" toilets, they can't perform their business using those sit toilets. I personally hate those hole in the ground toilets. I'm just not use to it.

the first time I saw one of those holes, I was like, wtf!! how am I suppose to pee in that? I've never had to aim before! but then again, the ones with toilet seats on them are extremely gross! so unsanitized and smelly and dirty. of course...had to pay to use the toilet and pay to get toilet paper...not a pleasant experience. I would always wait until I got to a really really REALLY nice restaurant or my grandparents' place before going to the bathroom. guess I've been spoiled in america...

i think singapore's got the right idea... most places has a couple hole toilets and a couple sit-down toilets (like, 2 holes vs. 8 regs) this way, the older generation has their choice (most prefer the holes, it seems like) and the rest can either go reg or old-skool
