that's because cantonese were the ones that migrated. they moved during the maoist era.

mmm well i only know canto but mando is better known worldwide. In my opinion, mando is easier to learn cuz of pinyin(?) plus 3 out of every 5 chinese people i meet only speak mando now. Cry looks like i'm gonna have to learn someday.

Mandarin is the in demand langauge world-wide. the ammount of Mandarijn speakers wordl wide even outside the PRC far outsrip cantonese. For business Mandarin si becoming very important, secondary only to English world-wide. You'll be hard pressed to dfind many people studying Cantonese outside Gungdung province yet threouhgout Hong Kong every kid has to learn Mandarin. sad to say but the numbers of cantonese speakers are diminishing. Soon itll face the problem that other minroity language such as hakka, diojiu etc.. faced

I AM!!! lol. yeah i dont want canto to just disappear off the face of the earth. I think the fact that HK speaks canto is good enough. but i dont think mando actually sounds better than canto. it's prolly just cuz i'm used to canto and mando sounds different. Mando sounds like what non chinese classigy as chinese (ching bok wong ming). I hate it when idiots go around saying that when they see a take-out place or an asian man.

~ I totally agree with u!! Canto sounds way better than evil mando [sry for mando people here xP] When i went back HK last summer from my resources, they are forcing schools to teach mando now since this fuss over china owning hk again poop ._.

im so scared of canto turning into minor language like shunghu zhojo and many more. Cry
